Ilamparthi A R wins Mrs. Meera Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2022

Ilamparthi A R, IM Harikrishnan A Ra and Gugan G scored 8/9 each. The World Under-14 Open 2022 champion won Mrs. Meera Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2022 due to better tie-breaks. Harikrishnan and Gugan were placed second and third. Ilamparthi defeated the top seed and eventual runner-up in the sixth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000 and a trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each. A total of 340 players took part in this event. This was Ilamparthi's first Rapid Rating Open triumph in his career. He won this a fortnight after clinching Gold at Asian Under-18 Open Rapid 2022.

Both Ilamparthi and Gugan remained undefeated. Two out of the podium finishers were teenagers, Ilamparthi being the youngest among them. Poorna Sri M K was the highest finisher among female participants. She scored 7/9 to secure 19th place.

A total of 340 players including 3 IMs took part from various parts of the country and one from Scotland and USA each. The two-day nine-round Swiss league Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Jerusalem College of Engineering at the college premises in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 29th and 30th October 2022. The time control of the tournament was 20 minutes + 10 seconds increment from move no.1.
